Your View Matters

Feng Shui Vantage | September 2025 Newsletter | Your View Matters

Do you ever notice how a change of scenery can instantly lift your spirits? During my visit to a beautiful villa in Cap Ferra, France, I was captivated by its breathtaking views. It reminded me just how much what we see and what we focus on shapes our energy.

In feng shui, your view is more than scenery: it’s energy in motion. What is in your line of sight affects how you feel and what you attract. This includes not only the landscapes and objects around you but also your inner landscape - your thoughts and focus.

Why Your View Matters

Facing beauty and openness invites uplifting energy. By contrast, facing a blank wall or another building’s wall can feel stagnant, even if the compass direction is otherwise favourable for you. Similarly, sitting at your desk with laundry piled in your view brings a subtle drain to your energy.

It governs the energy you are receiving whilst facing that direction and the more time you spend there the greater the impact, over time these views leave a lasting imprint on your state of mind and opportunities.

Key Functional Spaces to Consider

Principle: What you look at daily influences your energy. Refresh your surroundings with something beautiful, meaningful, or natural to uplift you.

  • Your Desk
What do you see when you sit here? If it’s a wall, try repositioning your desk for a more inspiring outlook while still considering the “command position” (where you can see the entrance without being directly in front of it). If moving the desk isn’t possible, hang a beautiful picture or artwork that uplifts you or an inspiring quote.

  • Your Front Entrance
This is where energy enters your home. Make sure the pathway is clear and welcoming. If your view faces another building, soften it by beautifying your entrance indoors - flowers, artwork or even a welcoming scent can help create a sense of openness and invitation.

  • Your Personal Corners or Bed
Notice what you’re looking at while you rest or spend quiet moments. A simple shift - placing something beautiful, meaningful, or nature-inspired in your line of sight - can transform the energy you feel daily.

  • Your Business Space: Shape the view, shape the energy

In shared office spaces, place uplifting quotes or artwork where employees will see them throughout the day - supporting a positive, inspired mindset.

In customer-facing areas, remember that the first view matters most. What do clients see the moment they enter? A statement crystal, fresh flowers, a piece of art, or greenery can uplift the energy and leave a lasting positive impression.

The Command Position — or Vantage Point

In feng shui, we seek to place ourselves in a supportive position: with our back to a solid wall, facing the entrance but not directly in line with it. This provides a sense of safety and readiness as we can view who is approaching us, and from a psychological perspective, prevents the feeling of being “caught off guard.” Sometimes, this may mean prioritising support over a beautiful outside view. The key is balance - working with your space practically while still making it beautiful and supportive for you. Remember, it’s not about perfection but about harmony.

The Most Important View: Your Mind

Beyond external views, the most powerful sight is the one you carry within. With so much happening in the world, it is easy to fall into criticism and cluttered thinking. That’s not to diminish the importance of healthy critical thinking - it’s invaluable. But when it tips into constant criticism of others, it unsettles our energy and clouds our inner view.

This month, I invite you to clear your inner view with a Sacred Seven Flower Bath, a yin energy ritual that brings heaven and earth into union, leaving you centred and serene.

Sacred Seven Flower Bath for Mind Purification

  • Select 7 different flowers (or 7 of the same if that’s easier but check non-toxic flowers). White and yellow flowers bring peace and lightness; Chinese tradition favours red for success.

  • If fresh flowers aren’t practical, use 7 drops of essential oil such as lavender (check skin compatibility).

  • As you bathe (or soak your feet), turn your attention to each flower or the fragrance. Let it draw your mind away from clutter and towards beauty.

  • When finished, thank the flowers and the water for their healing energy.

This ritual helps dissolve negative patterns and refreshes your perspective - an inner feng shui for the heart and mind.

Crystals for September — Clear Quartz & Watermelon Tourmaline

This month’s crystal suggestions invite balance between clarity of mind and openness of heart. Use either or pair them together to align clear thinking with heart wisdom.

Clear Quartz - known as the master healer, brings clarity of mind, uplifts your perspective and amplifies positive energy. Place on your desk or in your creative space to enhance clarity and focus this month.

Watermelon Tourmaline - resonates with the heart, invites joy and helps you see beauty in your surroundings. Carry it with you outdoors or keep it nearby as a reminder to perceive beauty in your surroundings.

Sometimes, the simplest shift comes from pausing. Take a moment today to gaze at something uplifting - a flower, the sky, a piece of art - and notice how your body responds. This pause is more than visual; it’s a doorway to your intuitive awareness. The more you practise this, the more naturally your environment supports you from the inside out.
