Inspiration from the Japanese education system
Japan's educational system is so revolutionary that it currently trains children as "Citizens of the world," not as Japanese.
A revolutionary pilot plan called "Brave Change" (Futoji no henko) is being tested in Japan, based on the Erasmus, Grundtvig, Monnet, Ashoka and Comenius educational programs.
It is a conceptual change. They will understand and accept different cultures and their horizons will be global, not national.
The 12-year program is based on the concepts:
- Zero filler subjects.
- Zero homework.
- And it only has 5 subjects, which are:
1. Business Arithmetic.
Basic operations and use of financial calculators.
2. Reading.
They start by reading a page a day from the book that each child chooses and end by reading a book a week.
3. Civics.
Understanding this as total respect for the laws, civil value, ethics, respect for the rules of coexistence, tolerance, altruism and respect for ecology and the environment.
4. Computing.
Office, Internet, social networks and online business.
5. Languages.
4 or 5 alphabets, cultures, religions, including Japanese, Latin, English, German, Chinese, Arabic; with social exchange visits to families in each country during the summer.
What will be the result of this program?
Young people who at 18 years old speak 4 languages, know 4 cultures, 4 alphabets.
- They are experts in using their computers and cell phones as work tools.
- They read 52 books a year.
- They respect the law, ecology and coexistence.
- They handle business and financial arithmetic perfectly.
“What about Art, Music, Creative Writing, Sports? It does cover the basics needed to live in the world today but time for individual creativity is missing as Brenda indicated. The list is one of skills and I like them all. Perhaps they could be hung on a framework of individuality, imagination, intuition and independence. Or another way to look at it is, that within each skill, how is each child's individuality, imagination, intuition and independence expressed? Answering those four would set an individualized map for each child that might help them to become more of who they can be, a graceful entrance into adulthood.
Something else that could be added would be dealing with emotions which are one of the engines of reality creation. As a matter of fact, why not a thread on conscious reality creation that would include choice, beliefs...all the manifestng and sustaining energies...and more?
The ways of incorporating Lazaris's guidance are huge!”
